The Grants Office coordinates a variety of federal, state, local, and private foundation grant and philanthropic programs. The district has approximately 25 programs totaling over three and one half million dollars. These projects range in size from just a few thousand dollars to over a million dollars. Some are specific to one activity or function, while others provide supplementary services across the district.

In general, the assistance programs are designed to complement the district's mission and School Board goals: improve academic achievement and promote a culture-based educational environment. All grants come under the review and participation process of the Federal Programs Parent Advisory Committee (FPPAC). This committee works as a vital link between the School Advisory Councils (SAC's) and the North Slope Borough School Board in grant related matters.

Some of the major grant programs administered via our district office are; the Indian Education Program, Title I program, Migrant Education Program, and Johnson O'Malley (JOM). Not all grants are administered via the grants office, various specialized programs are managed through their respective departments, e.g., the Alaska Native Education Program (ANEP) is directed via the Bilingual/Multicultural Department, Impact Aid is handled by the Business Office, transportation funds are administered via the Maintenance and Operations Department, and likewise for the Food Service Department, etc. All of these programs fall under the budget category of Special Revenue Funds and collectively they provide a significant monetary resource to the North Slope Borough School District.
