Iñupiat Culture
‘Iñupiat’ means ‘the real people.’ They have inhabited the Arctic for thousands of years and continue to practice subsistence lifestyles as an integral part of their culture. North Slope Borough School District supports and celebrates the cultural "Our Blanket of Life" through the Iñupiat Learning Framework. This "Mapkuqput Iñuuniaggnigmi" lays out four realms, or knowledge areas: Environment, Community, Individual Roles, and History. Embedded throughout these realms are the elements of Language and Spirituality.
