  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): Completing the FAFSA is the first step towards getting federal aid for college, career school, or graduate school. Completing and submitting the FAFSA is free and quick, and gives you access to the largest source of financial aid to pay for college or career school. Access the FAFSA Online Application.

Important Scholarship Programs:

  • Arctic Education Foundation (AEF): "The AEF was established in 1977 as a non-profit foundation committed to providing support to eligible students pursuing either a degree or certification. The goal of the Foundation is an educated, trained, Iñupiat professional workforce ready to take on any job, especially those jobs requiring professionals within the North Slope region. All applicants who meet eligibility requirements and show a financial need are funded." Access AEF Scholarships. Deadlines: August 1;December 1; March 1; May 1.

  • The Alaska Performance Scholarship (APS) Program: "The Alaska Performance Scholarship provides an opportunity for Alaska high school students to earn a scholarship to help cover the cost of an Alaska postsecondary education. Alaska high school students who take a more rigorous curriculum, get good grades, and score well on college placement or work ready exams, can earn an Alaska Performance Scholarship to qualified Alaska colleges, universities, or vocational/technical programs."   • The UA Scholars Program: "The purpose of the UA Scholars Program is to provide an incentive for Alaska's middle and high school students to achieve academic excellence, to nourish efforts of schools to provide high quality education, and to encourage the top high school graduates from every community in Alaska to attend the University of Alaska."   • The Native Village of Barrow Higher Education Grant Program This program is for Barrow residents. Eligibility: Students who are enrolled with the Native Village of Barrow; Students who are part of a Federally recognized tribe. Access the NVB Scholarship web page.   • American Indian Education Fund (AIEF): The American Indian Education Fund was established to support educational opportunities for American Indian and Alaska Native students. Our vision is strong, self-sufficient American Indian communities. Scholarships are awarded for each school year and are chosen by a national selection committee.   • ASTAC Scholarship. ASTAC annually awards two $1,000 scholarships to two resident senior high school students from our serving territory. The most qualified and deserving applicants will receive the scholarships with a restriction that only one scholarship can be available to a Barrow student and enable all of the remaining students on the North Slope to be awarded at least one of the available scholarships.   • Barrow Utilities and Electric Cooperative, Inc (BUECI). BUECI has two (2) $1,000 scholarships available! Access scholarship information. Deadline usually in April.

  • Better Business Bureau Foundation: BBB Student of Integrity Scholarships. Access scholarship information.

  • Indian Health Services Scholarship: The Indian Health Service (IHS) offers three scholarships for American Indian and Alaska Native students in order to train health professionals to staff Indian health programs. Access scholarship information

  • June Nelson Memorial Scholarship. The Association of Alaska School Boards Annual Scholarship Award Competition. The June Nelson Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of the late June Nelson, longtime school board member from Kotzebue. AASB will award graduating seniors a $1,200 scholarship to apply toward their post-secondary education. The scholarship may be applied toward the student’s choice of a business, trade, or a college institution. Access application information

  • The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition among high school students for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships that began in 1955. United States high school students enter the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which serves as an initial screen of over 1.3 million entrants each year, and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.
