Dr Caitlin Santos has lived and worked on the North Slope since 2012. She and her husband Reggie have four children who have all attended NSBSD schools and she has worked in leadership at the NSBSD and ASNA since moving to the Slope.
Dr Santos has more than 20 years of experience serving students, educators, and communities in Alaska. Her work as an educational leader is grounded in a commitment to ensuring that students have access to high-quality, culturally responsive learning experiences that reflect their identities, cultures, languages, and communities.
From 2022-2026, Dr Santos was the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, responsible for designing and overseeing the teaching and learning reform that has resulted in unprecedented growth for our North Slope students. From 2012 - 2019 she also worked with the Curriculum Department at the North Slope Borough School District, supporting and traveling to all schools within the district.
Dr. Santos is passionate about building educational systems that bring together Indigenous knowledge, community expertise, and evidence-based instructional practices. She is committed to delivering meaningful and sustainable educational change through collaboration.
Dr. Santos is a certified educator in the State of Alaska, holds a Ph.D. in Cross Cultural Studies in Education from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and continues to advocate for culturally responsive, locally relevant, and high-quality education for students across Alaska. In her spare time, she is happiest spending time with her kids and sewing atikluks for friends and family.
