David ‘Anŋialuġauraq’ Vadiveloo is the Tamil Australian son of Kandiah and Anne Vadiveloo. Raised in Australia, David first came to Utqiagvik in 2007 and is married to Rachel Edwardson, the eldest daughter of George and Debby Edwardson. They have three children in the school district – Qiḷaavsuk, Saġġana and Ulimaun.
David has been an educator for 30 years, starting his professional career as a specialist attorney in Indigenous land rights and human rights law before merging his practice with education and organizational reform. In that time he has balanced roles in teaching, administration and leadership coaching and is an internationally recognized facilitator of Culturally Safe and Responsive Practice.
In April 2022, David accepted the position as NSBSD Superintendent. He is active in subsistence hunting and feels blessed to be part of a community that carries the traditions of their ancestors with such pride. “My job is to implement the vision of the Iñupiaq people – a culturally responsive educational system anchored by Iñupiaq language and culture that delivers excellence in education and post-school pathways for all students”.
