About NSBSD

The North Slope Borough School District seeks enthusiastic and committed educators to fill anticipated openings in our eight Iñupiat villages.  We serve the youth of Anaktuvuk Pass, Atqasuk, Kaktovik, Nuiqsut, Point Hope, Point Lay, Utqiaġvik (Barrow), and Wainwright. Each school has its own unique character, and we are looking to hire outstanding teachers who will become part of each school family.

The North Slope is a great place for those new to the profession to begin their teaching careers, and for experienced educators to apply their expertise in a challenging and enriching new environment. Traditional subsistence activities are integral to our way of life, and teachers who embrace the opportunity to learn and adapt to a new culture thrive here.

Our Expectations

Key skills include respect, empathy, subject expertise, and willingness to embrace new experiences. If you are passionate about helping students grow as individuals and helping them acquire the skills to be successful, this is the place for you. Whether you are an Elementary generalist, a Middle School teacher, a Secondary subject specialist, or a Special Education professional, the communities of NSBSD have a rewarding position to offer you. All candidates must have Alaska teacher certification and pass a criminal records check. Interested applicants should submit their résumés directly to Teach@NSBSD.org

Salary and Housing

Salary ranges from $61,349 to $99,807, according to qualifications and experience, with generous benefits and participation in Alaska’s Teacher Retirement System. Housing is subsidized, and an additional stipend is paid to educators who work in the smaller villages.

We look forward to reviewing your application, and perhaps welcoming you to the North Slope – America’s northernmost school district!
