This fall the North Slope Borough School District unveiled a middle school unit that will bring children face to face with their own history as they learn how to study the past, and how to write.
The district completed a book, entitled Point Lay Biographies, which tells the stories of four elders of Kali. These tales were first taken down in the late '80s by Yvonne Yarber as she visited elders in their homes.
...This book is just one step in a learning process that will span the entire North Slope school system, said the District's Inupiaq Studies Director, Jana Harcharek.
