Lisa The Assistant Superintendent assists with the daily management of the educational programs and services for the District. The following departments report directly to her:  Assessment and Accountability, Curriculum and Instruction, Iñupiaq Education, Student Services, Human Resources and Information Technology.

One of the major projects that the Assistant Superintendent leads is the Curriculum Alignment Integration and Mapping (CAIM) initiative for the district. The strategic plan goal of integrating knowledge systems into the core content areas is the primary focus. The District is committed to developing a mission driven, well-articulated curriculum, which is aligned with the Alaska State Standards/Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) and is based on the Iñupiaq Learning Framework (ILF).

The District is undertaking the CAIM effort with the assistance of veteran teachers, consultants and the State (Department of Education and Early Development, DEED). We again started the 2012/2013 school year with a weeklong CAIM workshop with our Core Content Area Teams (C-CATs), facilitated by Jay McTighe, a nationally recognized education consultant.  All of our district in-services (including a day of the All Hire In-Service) will be focused on the CAIM effort and will include collaborative cultural training provided by the Iñupiaq Education Department that will align with this effort. The hope is to bring all of the teaching staff on board through committed professional development time. The power of this process is at the site level and each site is well represented on the C-CATs.

We will begin sharing the CAIM work with the North Slope communities through steering committees and other means to get feedback.  We will be implementing units in the classroom this year and field adjusting throughout the next few years.  This is a multi-year process that eventually will be institutionalized as a process for ongoing curriculum and assessment review.

The Assistant Superintendent is the single point of contact for the North Slope Borough School District (NSBSD) to the North Slope Borough Education Association (NSBEA) and also oversees the Professional Performance Pay (PPP) Plan on behalf of the administration.  The District shall provide performance pay to teachers consistent with the PPP Plan set out in the NSBSD Negotiated Agreement between the NSBSD Board and the NSBEA. The current negotiated agreement can be found here.
